A 19th century painting by Scottish female artist Frances Stoddart (1809-1867) of a tree covered valley landscape with an old stone bridge over a flowing river, a man fishing below the rapids and another passing over the bridge on a white horse above.

Frances Stoddart (1809-1867), was a female artist of landscapes, waterscapes and architectural views living in Edinburgh. She painted many Scottish landscapes and was active as an artist from 1837-1867 She exhibited at the Royal Academy in London to which she sent works in 1837 and 1840, as well as at the academy in Berlin. She also featured at the Royal Scottish Academy, in Edinburgh, from 1838 to 1852, and from 1854 to 1867 and the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts.
