A pair of partridges and a black and a white hare in a landscape. Oil on canvas in a giltwood frame, c. 1700.

Angelo Maria Crivelli, known as Crivellone (1672-1730), was born in Milan and was a painter of animals and hunting scenes. According to Orlandi, he' painted with surprising truth and spirit' and was considered to be one of the most accomplished painters of this genre Italy had ever produced. He died in 1730.
